Another man sent here to work the petrol pump (i.e. water column for engines) G. Beresford.
Wednesday 16th May, 1917
18th Train crew men recalled and sent further up the line. One went from Cappy.
Tuesday 15th May, 1917
Frise now closed. This is the last of the old main line stations to be shut.
The following information is from Martin Farebrother:
Confirms old line link across Somme canal closed, but line from Cappy across plateau towards Péronne remained at least partly open.
Monday 14th May, 1917
Eggs for breakfast – 3d*. each, but they were enjoyed. Weather lovely now.
*This equates to £1.16 in 2022 currency!
Sunday 13th May, 1917
Had a dip in canal in afternoon. Church parade for men going in firing line.
Saturday 12th May, 1917
Plenty of trains through here day and night. 30 through in 12 hours.
Friday 11th May, 1917
Cappy is a very large station about 2 miles from Froissy. I am glad to get away from H.Q. again. My mates are on fatigues there.

Line on south bank of Somme (former French line) still open.
Thursday 10th May, 1917
Parade at 5.50 a.m. Drill until 7.30 a.m. Oh dear. Told at 8.00 a.m. I had 20 minutes to pack up and go to Cappy as one of the men there had met with an accident.
Wednesday 9th May, 1917
Returned to Froissy by Red Cross motor car. This is the first time I have been to H.Q. since we took over from the French on March 12th.
